Edward James was a man of very rich upper class English and had the world's largest collection of Surrealist art. His dream was to build his own surrealistic fantasy in the rainforest of central Mexico.
This is how Las Pozas [the "pools"] came to life. It is a maze with no signs indicating the way forward. Architecture and sculpture are full of fantasy, connected by winding stone paths, built into its natural surroundings. Most buildings are unfinished and now covered with moss and vegetation.
"Edward James took Las Pozas of the jungle, and now the forest is taking it back," James once said in the interview that "one should never finish building his house" should always be in the process of creation.
It is a treasure trove of surreal visions, a truly unique place, like a secret garden. References: and eyeconart.net
